Hundreds of children and families in the Surmang region celebrated the end of the winter session of the Children’s Education Program in March 2019. The program is held annually at the Surmang Shedra and other satellite sites. Approximately 250 children participated this winter at the the Shedra at Dutsi Til and a second site.
The Children’s Education Program has been running since 2008 with monks serving as the instructors for children in the remote Surmang valley. Without this program, there are few educational opportunities in the area. The program allows children to study the Tibetan language as well as arithmetic and other basic subjects.
Thanks to the Gesar Fund and individual donors to the Konchok Foundation who have helped to keep this program running for more than a decade. For more information, visit: Children’s Education Program.
